It’s a time-traveling love story (or predation story?) like no other One of the bigger stories to come out of 2023’s Toronto International Film Festival was Bertrand Bonello’s science fiction movie The Beast, a dizzying, surreal story about a woman, Gabrielle (Léa Seydoux), reliving three past lives as part of a process to purge her memories and emotions.
Punctuated by a career-defining, three-role performance by Seydoux, The Beast poignantly conveys humanity’s struggle against dissociative identity and emotionless existence.
The Beast will debut in American theaters on April 5, 2024.
The year is 2044: artificial intelligence controls all facets of a stoic society as humans routinely “erase” their feelings.
