Mac Walters, the veteran writer and producer who worked on Mass Effect for almost two decades, has announced a “pause” in operations at his new AAA game studio, Worlds Untold.

“After careful consideration, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to discontinue financing for Worlds Untold,” a NetEase spokesperson told Eurogamer.

UPDATE 3pm UK: NetEase has told Eurogamer it remains committed to “a strong global presence” despite pulling funding from Worlds Untold, whose project it has praised.

The news comes just days after fellow BioWare veteran Casey Hudson announced the closure of his new studio, and the cancellation of its “AAA” sci-fi game, after similar funding issues.
