During Electronic Arts’ quarterly financial call, Chief Executive Officer Blake Jorgensen talked about the company’s point of view on the perspective of a mid-generation update to the PS4 and Xbox One (IE: PS4 Neo and Xbox One.5 or however they will be called).
Jorgensen explained that first parties are realizing that the compatibility issue across consoles is an important issue for consumers, and Microsoft has shown that with its drive for backward compatibility.
He feels that this issue is going to be an important part of a mid cycle if there is one, removing a lot of the risks normally associated with console cycles.
Also, the company’s business model is so much more diverse now than it has been historical, that the concept of console cycles is somewhat irrelevant in the ability to generate cash flow and revenue.
