Even Phil Spencer thinks PS4-Xbox One cross-play may be a lost cause

As Xbox boss Spencer told GameSpot during the recent Brazil Game Show, Microsoft has issued open invitations to implement cross-play with other console developers.

Microsoft wants to bring cross-play to all consoles, Sony’s reluctance may mean it will never happen.

As for Microsoft’s consoles, though, Spencer wants to continue to improve cross-play functionality. “If it’s better for gamers, I have a hard time thinking why we shouldn’t go do this,” he said.
