Microsoft today announced an update that will support unlocked frame rates, along with AMD- and Nvidia-compatible monitor refresh rates, for games on the Windows 10 Universal Windows Platform.
When you use a game menu to “disable vsync,” you instruct applications to render frames out of sync with the monitor refresh.
The update will roll out over time for UWP games and will depend on individual developers to support the changes—for example, Remedy Entertainment for Quantum Break.
Vsync refers to the ability of an application to synchronize game rendering frames with the refresh rate of the monitor.
